Instagram – 8 (Photo credit: BrentOzar)

Instagram is becoming one of the fastest-growing social networking applications ever, even before hitting the Android Marketplace. In the past one and a half years, this app was downloaded 30 million times by iOS users. In the first week of its availability for the Android operating system, an estimated 5 million Android users downloaded it. At this rate, Instagram will reach 100 million users in less than two years. By comparison, it took Facebook four full years to reach 100 million users. So, why is Instagram so popular?

Ease of Use

While Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, Google Plus and other social networking require a learning curve, Instagram is as easy as using a smartphone. Instagram combines the brevity of Twitter with the visual appeal of Pintrest and offers a completely intuitive app that anyone who can operate their smartphone should have no trouble mastering. Instagram is the first social networking platform that is fully mobile. There is no version for desktop or portable computers.

Versatility

There are so many things you can use Instagram to do. There are the obvious uses, of course, such as sharing pictures of the kids with out-of-town grandparents and offering military parents the chance to see their children grow up. But there is a bigger picture, as is often the case with new social networking opportunities. Photojournalists have a whole new platform by which to bring their wares to the public eye. And there are even bigger possibilities, spotlighted when the independent rock band Vaccine had fans shoot their new video for them. Concert attendees photographed the event, posted it to Instagram with #vaccinevideo, and the band literally got a zero-production cost video created and posted for them.

Why Android? Why Now?

Developers of the Instagram app kept the iOS release lean and light. This allowed them to quickly respond to users concerns and demands, which allowed them to build a productive, intuitive, well-working app for the mass market. By adding Android users later, rather than sooner, the app is fully market-tested and ready to perform. There are few differences between Instagram for Android and Instagram for iPhone. iPhone users that switch to T-Mobile Android phones and download Instagram will hardly even notice they’re using it on a different operating system.

Android Marketplace and Instagram are Both in Transition

Even as the Instagram app becomes an instant success in the Android Marketplace, both Instagram and Android Marketplace are seeing other big changes take place. Facebook just announced their purchase of the small Instagram for a whopping $1 billion. And Android Marketplace changed almost overnight to Google Play. However, these changes have taken place seamlessly, and users hardly noticed much except the name change for their Marketplace app and sometimes slow Instagram downloads due to high volumes. If you’re trying to download Instagram and experience slow or timed-out responses, make sure you’re in an area that gets good 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi service. Also, try downloading at non-peak hours, such as during the early morning.

It takes a sharp eye to spot a good bonus offer. The best thing to do to get the most out of a casino bonus is to review the bonus terms and conditions. You can see how it will apply to you before you sign up to play a certain game.

Image from Flickr

Bonuses as a Marketing Tactic

You may be wondering why casino sites offer bonuses. Most casino sites use bonuses as a very simple marketing tactic. In fact, you may not realize it, but these online casinos actually put up a lot of bonuses to offer.

They do this so that they can entice you and other players to try the games on their sites. Most of the time, the sign-up bonus will provide you with a decent amount to gamble with before you make a deposit. If an online casino is offering a bonus just for signing up with them, they must be confident that their games will drive you to become a regular player.

Taking Advantage of Casino Bonuses

Is the bonus that is being offered something that you will benefit from? Take note that if the casino site requires you to invest a high amount as an initial deposit, then you may want to avoid it.

If, on the other hand, the bonus is given to you for free upon sign-up, why would you not take it? A no-deposit bonus, the lowest possibly being $25 dollars, gives you an opportunity to play casino games without risking depositing your money. However, if you do play, you must understand that until you reach a specific limit or wager, you probably cannot cash out the bonus depending on the casino rules

More importantly, some bonuses are not available to withdraw at all, even if you reach higher than the required limit. These are typically set to be used as play money for the games.

For free spins or free one hour game bonuses, you can employ them at your advantage by using the free games first before depositing your money in a certain game. You can also use the payouts you have won in this free spins or games to play again. These bonuses may not come in monetary value, but you can still use them to get the maximum payout without having to spend a dollar.

Playing by the Rules

All online casino bonuses have specific rules in which you must adhere to in order to qualify. For example, say you expended your sign-up bonus and that you enjoyed the games so much, you want to fund your account to play. The deposit bonus on the website offers you a matching percentage bonus to the amount you put in.

Hence, if you deposit $100 dollars and receive a bonus of 100 percent, you will have $200 to play with. However, in order for this bonus to qualify for withdrawal, you need to bet a specific amount against your deposit. This means you have to bet ten times against the deposit amount, so you can make full use of your bonus.

Remember to review the rules of your bonus in order to use it to its full potential. In addition, terms and conditions vary in each website as far as casino bonuses are concerned, so it is crucial that you read and comprehend these rules each time you visit an online casino.

Image via Wikipedia

The process of online faxing is relatively quick, which is one of the main reasons why businesses are increasingly choosing such services over traditional fax machines. Online faxing can take as little as five minutes, as long as you have all the right tools set in place. It is also important to upload your document efficiently to save time during the process.

Assessing Your Internet Speed

Sending an online fax requires fast Internet connection. Dial-up Internet is not as common anymore, but some small businesses still use this service when they are first starting out. Smaller Internet packages are less expensive, but they are also slower and impractical when you need to complete tasks quickly. Ultimately, you get what you pay for.

The efficiency of business tasks increases when you have a quick Internet speed. Having a good connection helps to make sure that your online faxes are completed and sent off within five minutes. If your Internet is not top of the line, it is worth checking out all of your options with your provider to see how you can upgrade affordably.

Uploading Documents

Not all business owners are naturally tech-savvy, but it is important that you gain the necessary skills you need to complete simple tasks on your computer. This will save you time, as well as headaches over your career. Sending faxes online are completed in a timely manner when you know how to upload documents properly.

First, you need to decide how to upload the document. The most common faxes are typed as Word documents saved to your internal or external hard drive. When you are ready to fax the document, simply attach it to your email.

If the fax is a hand-written paper, or a typed document with signatures, you will need to scan it into your computer before sending. From there, you can send the document to the recipient as either and image or a PDF file. This can take longer than a Word document, but it is necessary if there are hand-written pieces on the fax.

Choosing the Right Service

Having the correct tools and skills is important in sending online faxes quickly and efficiently. Such resources are not useful if you don’t invest in a quality online faxing service. The right kind of service will give you a fax number as well as the ability to fax anyone from anywhere, including your laptop and phone. It is worth the investment if you plan on faxing often for business purposes.

Gambling online involves communication mediums such as the internet, phone or digital television. These games of chance require strategy skills like playing card games such as poker, or in some cases, very little skills at all such as the lottery, roulette wheel or the poker machine. Wagering on sporting events occurs under each medium.

Access to Gambling On the Internet

In the mid-nineties, the first internet gambling games introduced were very slow and had uncomplicated graphics. Users had difficulty playing casino style games and virtual slot machines due to the slow bandwidth, link congestion and traffic as well as the processing of personal computers back then.

In user satisfaction, speed plays a vital role in utilizing the internet for the purposes of gambling because it allows them the ease in long game engagement. Users are also drawn to excellent sound quality and beautiful graphics that sustain their interest.

Users may opt for a web-based or a download-based internet casino-style game. In web-based technology, users are able to play games without having to install software. On the other hand, download-based technology requires users to download the software in order to gain access. This runs faster than web-based games. Yet, the initial download may take some time and there could be a risk with a program that contains spyware or malware.

Gambling Services Available Online

There are a wide variety of gambling services for gaming and wagering, such as the roulette, baccarat, craps and interactive slot machines. There are also online poker games which allow players to play against each other. There are sites for wagering similar to services given by shop fronts and telephone services having an extensive set of events.

Existing gambling firms have moved into the online community and appended their products including interactive wagering and gaming, along with traditional wagering products.

Tourists in Las Vegas dream of the day when they can finally sit by the pool or wait in line at the buffet and place bets on a roulette table or a game of blackjack by simply pressing a button on a handheld device. Today, it seems as if their dreams will finally turn into reality. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has now proposed several ways in which casinos can offer various forms of wireless gambling.

Delving Into Legal Matters

After months of public hearings and legal deliberations, gambling companies have finally persuaded the gaming control board to allow wireless gambling in the state of Nevada. According to Lee Amaitis, president of Cantor G&W, the company is poised to take advantage of this new law. It has launched a number of research and development projects to create a Java-based program that users can access in any WiFi-enabled mobile device.

In 2006, Nevada governor Kenny Guinn signed the bill into law. This bill allows casinos to offer various forms of wireless gambling in certain sections within the perimeter of their establishment. Identification and security measures that aim to monitor who uses the wireless device and where he or she uses it are also attached to this legislative bill. This development changed the landscape of Las Vegas casinos.

The Potential of Mobile Gambling

Obviously, mobile gambling has radically changed how casinos do business. It has set players free from slot machines and felt-topped tables and gave them the chance to attend to multiple tasks while they wager. It also allows them to place bets on different games at once, thus increasing their productivity and making the most of their leisure time.

The main goal of the Gaming Control Board is to make sure that any wireless bets can reach its appropriate destination without a hitch. Mark Clayton, one of the members of the organization, shares that they have strict protocol on what communication occurs between servers and devices. Companies can only get the license to operate wirelessly if they have a high level of encryption that can virtually avoid any breach of security.

According to Netlingo, an award-winning collector of technology terms, a download involves a transfer of a file. The file is saved on your computer. Downloads from the Internet come in HTTP format, mp3, wav or email attachments, etc. Streaming creates an entirely different process. It entails a real-time, live flow of digital information across a network through an Internet host. The media clip never resides on your computer. One is simply entering and exiting the stream as needed in order to gain access to the information. The Nature of Downloading and Streaming Both options give a consumer access to what they would like to read, view or listen. Which one is better depends on a number of factors including the Internet experience as consumer or provider. Here are some things to consider: • What hardware is present in your computer? • What software is loaded in your computer? • Is it a file you would like to view once or many times? Computers need a certain level of graphics card, audio cards or speed of play to use a file. If the hardware lacks any of these, it may prevent the file from playing or it may play so erratically that you cannot readily view it.

Image via Flickr

Most computers come with adequate software to play basic digital files, but the ever-evolving media clips with multiple layers of music, text or graphics often need the latest versions to play fully. Downloading may become a problem, so a computer (which is more basic) may handle music streaming better. The Internet host server actually houses the software to be used, and your computer only needs to access the music streaming.

Files open through software programs that are installed on your computer. Files viewed often make the most sense for download. But there are instances when you can download a file and not be able to open it.

If no software is available, then use streaming since everything comes housed on the server. Media files take up space on a computer’s hard drive. Streaming from a host site leaves your computer memory free for other things.

Image via Flickr

Providers have more advantages with streaming. The product being streamed quickly becomes updated since their servers house the program. The digital codes for the media clips are only transmitted and they never leave the provider’s server, so distribution becomes controllable.

My Music: To Stream or To Download

The battle between Music Streaming vs. Music Downloading has intensified. Find out how:

Music downloading services successfully brought the purchasing of music media to an all time high. Music is created and is sold more, faster and easier than ever. Companies such as iTunes, Napster, or Amazon mp3 offer individual song downloads to your heart’s content at 99 cents.

As long as you have the money and enough computer space, you can download and organize music from sunrise till twilight.

Music streaming, on the other hand, broadens the array of songs available. Subscription services such as Spotify, Turntable, and Mog expose a member to innovative, indie, and alternative options. Media clips are no longer filtered by a corporation or business, but comes direct to the consumer.

So which one’s better? You pick. After all, it’s your choice, your music, your way.

Looking to improve your knowledge of Forex trading and its platforms? Look no further. Forex trading can be a difficult business and if you are looking to improve your knowledge of the market and the way traders and brokers do business, you will need to learn a few terms.

While the Forex market may be confusing, with just a little research you can easily begin to understand its intricacies. Here are 8 Forex market terms by UFX Markets to help you get started and give you a basic idea of what happens in a Forex trading market.

Forex

To start, Forex (or FX) is the name of any marketplace where a number of traders gather to globally trade foreign currencies. Trading on a Forex happens quickly and huge amounts can be won or lost in seconds. Forexes are present all over the world and can have different opening and closing times depending on location.

Spread

This is the difference between the buying and selling price of any currency. These prices are determined by individual brokers, which mean traders can undercut competitors in order to make more trades. Of course, this will come at a price for them unless they trade a sufficient amount to make up the difference.

Currency Pair

This is a general term given to any two currencies that are being exchanged for one another. The major currencies of the world are always available in a Forex, as well as many others that may be less known.

Leverage

Leverage is the name given to the amount of sway a trader has when he or she is trading with money he or she doesn’t have. The greater the leverage, the greater the potential profit (or loss).

Margins

Traders give brokers cash amounts based on margins, which means they can trade huge amounts they wouldn’t otherwise have. If the margins are called in, the trader has to repay them back immediately.

Stop Loss

The safety measure of a Forex, stop losses ensure that if traders lose money, they will only lose a portion of their investment, rather than the full amount.

Pip

A pip is a small unit of currency, usually only worth a decimal point or two. However, they can add up when taking leverage into account, so they are not to be discounted.

Long and Short

This term refers to how long a trader holds onto currency before selling it. Depending on the change in exchange rates, holding money long or short can mean the difference between losses and gains, so make sure you understand the marketplace before choosing.

Let’s face it, no one goes into a fishing vacation thinking that medical or travel emergencies will arise. After all, fishing vacations are all about living out your dreams, seeing the world, and getting a little rest and relaxation in. No matter how much planning you do before you go into your fishing vacation, there are some things such as a medical or travel emergency that you simply do not think will happen. This ignorance to the possibility of these emergencies arising can put you into a situation where you need quick cash, or your life could literally be on the line.

If you are on vacation pursuing a favorite hobby such as fishing, and find yourself facing a medical emergency or travel emergency that places you in jeopardy, don’t panic. There are things you can do to get cash quickly. For example, you can earn cash on the road performing quick freelance work for local businesses, or if you can grab access to the Internet or computer, you can seek help from reputable lenders that can provide you with installment loans that can help you get home safely or seek medical attention immediately.

Check the tips below to learn how you can make easy money that can be used for emergency situations that might arise while pursuing your favorite hobby while on vacation.

Image from Flickr

Turn Your Hobby into Easy Money

Take photographs or videos of your fishing trip or vacation. You can then sell your photos to local tourists, travel magazines or stock photo companies on the Internet. You can also splice or clean up your videos and sell them to websites that specialize in tourism.

Journal your fishing and travel experiences. You can then pitch your stories to travel magazines or online publications that can pay you for your content.

Work While Vacationing

Seek work at local fisheries, hostels, or travel lodges. If you enjoy fishing, boating, or any other activities that inspired you to take your vacation in the first place, work at these locations to earn additional funds.

Provide babysitting services to other vacationers. Some parents may want a night to themselves on the town while the children stay at the hotel, lodge, or hostel. Offering your babysitting services to tourists can earn you an extra amount of money.

Obtain a Loan

Apply for an installment loan. If you have Internet access, you can apply for installment loans from Great Plains Lending and have funds deposited into your bank account as soon as the following business day.

Apply for a cash advance or payday loan. Visit cash advance or payday loan centers in your vacation area or even online to discuss your loan options for easy money and instant cash.

Help Save the Environment

Recycle bottles and empty containers. Depending on where you stay, you may be able to earn a significant amount of money collecting empty containers from trash cans around hotels, lodges, and popular tourism spots, and then turning them to a recycling center to earn cash.

No one wants to think about what would happen if you ended up facing a travel or medical emergencies while on vacation, but these situations can happen. Fully understanding how you can get cash quickly for emergency situations while traveling can help relieve the stress and frustration you might encounter should these situations arise.

Cruises are great for spring break trips and honeymoons. However, have you considered taking a cruise with your family? There are many cruise ships out there on the water that are kid-friendly, providing engaging activities for both parents and children. Consider the following cruise possibilities when planning your next family vacation.

Disney Wonder

Image via Wikipedia

If you like tropical destinations, consider the Disney Wonder cruise to the Bahamas. This route usually features a two-day stop on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. While you’re en route to this island paradise, your kids will be sailing with their favorite Disney stars! What could be more fun than playing mini golf with Goofy? Your kids can meet their favorite characters during the character greeting times throughout the day. There is even a princess autograph session with Snow White and Cinderella. After you meet the Disney stars, you can take the kids to see Disney musicals and other live performances in the ship’s theater.

When you’re done hanging out with Mickey and the gang, this Disney cruise offers clubs and activities for all age groups. From interactive games for kids to dance parties for teens, there is enough specialized entertainment to keep the kids engaged for the length of the cruise.

Celebrity Solstice

The philosophy on Celebrity cruises is that every guest is a VIP, and on the Celebrity Solstice, guests get star treatment. The entertainment aboard this ship is both legendary and family friendly. With live performances of circus acts, magicians, comedians, musicians, Broadway musicals and more, your family won’t want to leave the theater.

Kids get a lot of attention on this cruise. Youth and teen programs geared toward specific age groups are supervised by experienced staff members and youth counselors. There are six different programs, encompassing kids from toddler age to age 17, so there is something for everyone! Younger children will enjoy activities in the Fun Factory, which provides games, sports, crafts, karaoke, theme parties, movies, slumber parties and more. LeapFrog learning equipment is available in the Fun Factory, and it can even be checked out for personal use. Teens will enjoy the X-Club, which hosts dances and social activities; it also offers a video game area with current consoles and popular gaming titles. You can even arrange a private in-stateroom babysitter if you need someone to watch your kids while the adults go to dinner.

Image via Wikipedia

The next time you plan a family vacation, consider one of these family friendly cruises. The whole family will enjoy an adventure like this!

When you run a business from your home office on the Internet, security should be one of your major priorities. This not helps to protect your private information, but also those of your customer.

The best place to start is by installing antivirus and online security software made specifically for a business. This is a wise investment, as this software regularly scans your computer and quarantines threats that can harm your system. The software you purchase should automatically update at regular intervals to keep current on the new threats that are on the web. It also should have options to do a full computer and a quick scan, depending on what you need.

When you set up an online store, you need to make sure that your site will protect your customers’ information. Your hosting company can give you an SSL certificate, showing that your site carries a higher level of security. This is imperative if you will be accepting credit cards, which are often a target for identity theft. There are other programs that can raise your level of protection, such as Verisign, which make it hard for others to get to personal information.

You should also check to see that your email provider has a secure connection when you are communicating with your customers. This is another area where spam, viruses and other threats can pop up often. The more secure your provider is, the better service that you can offer your customers. This will give them peace of mind when they shop with you.

Does your office look like your filing cabinet just exploded? Do you ever clean your office and it still doesn’t feel clean afterwards? Here’s some tips to use electronic media to de-clutter your office.

Filing

Decide what papers are most important to keep, such as insurance policies, wills, titles, birth certificates, and so forth. Some of this probably needs the hard copy to be stored in a fire safe which isn’t always easily accessible, and others are really just for reference where the hard copy serves no real importance. Some of these documents may already be available online such as your bank statements, and for those that aren’t, you can scan them in and store and organize on your hard drive backing up to an online backup service (which is usually cheaper than a storage unit).

Books

If your bookshelves are full of books you do not read, many of which may be used as a reference, consider e-books and place all those books into electronic memory. Some hard copies are nice to keep around for quick reference; however, most of those books might be better served at your local library. Many e-book readers offer search tools for quick access to referenced material.

Movies

DVD’s and VHS tapes take up space. Many movies are now available for instant download online, usually for a cheaper fee than purchasing or renting a movie, and can be watched on your computer monitor or television set through various gaming systems such as Xbox 360 (internet access required).

Take a look around your office and see what’s clunking up your space that can be stored electronically.

Some people, however, are making money that equates a normal pay check. The trick is usually combining different online experiences and long hours. Two of the top online jobs are the following:

Illustrators and Graphic Design

Many companies are looking for paid company positions and free-lance work online from illustrating books to web design. One can also submit artwork and photography to many stock image sites, on-demand printing such as Cafepress, and fonts for individual sale receiving a percentage of the sale. Training for this type of position usually includes college coursework on the computer software (such as Adobe products), though it is not usually required to land an online job.

Writing

The internet has become a new medium for writers, and is the perfect location for beginner writers to get their foot in the door and obtain published experience. Some companies contract writers for their web based clients to write online copy and content, from Search Engine Optimization to quality articles. Some writers have found social websites and blogs to be a great platform to gain fans and experience which have led many to a local, paid position, sometimes in the area of their content’s specialties. Many blogs and articles exist to improve writing skills, but most people look for good grammar and usable content.

Many other types of online careers exist from bookkeeping to customer service, and online jobs often make the best supplemental income.

The privacy concept many people fear being infringed with online use is a valid concept, and wise internet practices will keep your information safe.

Be Careful what you Say Online

The internet has a lot of places for someone to speak their mind, and it’s very easy to forget there are real people reading your content in addition to people who may misuse your content. Be careful giving out your location, vacation plans, dates and times of planning… People can piece together bits of information to get the full story of when your house will be left unattended or when your husband is deploying.

Protect Your Data

Use the least popular browser at the given time. Be careful what you click. If you are unsure if a link will take you to a credible website, right click the link and choose properties to see the destination address. If a window pops up sporadically saying click here to scan for viruses, close the window and manually request your software to scan for viruses. Use some sort of protection like McAfee or Norton.

Read the Fine Print

Before downloading any program, clicking I agree to the terms and conditions, or joining social networking sites, read the fine print in the contract and make sure it’s kosher to your needs and expectations. Many legal scams are legal because they spell out every nasty thing they plan to do to you in their fine print.

Just like any other highway, the Internet Highway can be dangerous to those who don’t utilize safe practices. Look both ways before crossing the street, and drive safely.

Most people will tell you that they are afraid someone will eavesdrop via their WiFi connections. That’s certainly possible. It happens all the time on public networks in cafesand bookstores. It could just as easily happen in your home.

There are, however, other things to worry about when you have an open WiFi connection. For instance, an open WiFi connection could allow your neighbors to connect to the Internet via your network to download files that they wouldn’t dare download through their own connections. What if your neighbor downloads a copyrighted movie or song with yo ur connection? People get sued every day for this activity. You certainly wouldn’t want to be held responsible just because you didn’t block other people from using your wireless network.

Keeping Your Connection Safe

For these and numerous other reasons, you should keep your WiFi connection private. If you fear that someone has already used your connection for nefarious purposes, then browse the posts on networkusa.org to find information that can help you solve the problem. In many cases, you will find that a strong antivirus program will remove any malware.

When it comes to Internet safety, it’s better to take a cautious approach instead of leaving your connection open. The right security has become imperative in today’s world.

What types of technological advances occur on the other side of North Korea’s iron curtain? Very few individuals have personal computers; those that do can’t access the Internet. But it seems that North Korea has started producing some of its own computers.

North Korean Computers

According to North Korean officials, they now manufacture small computers that work very much like those enjoyed by the rest of the world. They don’t have Windows or Apple operating systems, of course, but they do have a version of Linux called “Red Star” that was developed within North Korea. The computers can supposedly process multimedia applications, allow users to create and edit text documents, and access dictionaries. In other words, they work, but you could buy a more powerful machine made in the United States over decade ago.

What Does This Mean for the Rest of the World?

It’s not particularly surprising that North Korea has started making its own computers. After all, most countries don’t have anything to do with the tightly run country. One should anticipate that North Koreans have the ability to create technology that is similar to those used around the world. It doesn’t exactly give North Korea any kind of advantage.

Unfortunately, the government maintains such strict control that technology is unlikely to lead to the types of regime changes that have been seen lately in the Middle East. Without access to the Internet, North Korean citizens will continue to live under the rule of a strict government that tells them what they can and cannot do.

The popularity of Facebook has made it a hotbed for cybercriminals looking to make a few quick bucks off of unsuspecting victims. For years, security specialists have criticized Facebook for not implementing stronger features that would protect users from spam and stolen passwords. Facebook has finally responded with two new features that should improve security.

Image via CrunchBase

Facebook Implements a Two-Step Login Process

Hackers know that it is fairly easy to steal someone’s Facebook password. That allows them to bombard people with spam from a trusted source. Facebook has created a two-step login process that should impede cybercriminals. This process forces users to provide private information in addition to a password.

Unfortunately, Facebook hasn’t made this two-step process mandatory. Chances are that most users will just bypass it because they don’t want to bother with the extra step. Still, it shows that Facebook is trying to help its members stay secure.

Facebook Takes Steps to Stop Clickjacking

Facebook has also added a new feature that will make likejacking more difficult. Instead of trusting every “like” or post, the website will look for suspicious actions and alert the user when something seems amiss. This will make it much harder for clickjackers to take advantage of Facebook users because the members can just deny the action before it causes any damage.

These steps aren’t going to make Facebook security foolproof, but they do take steps in the right direction. Despite the amount of criticism that Facebook has gotten for its relaxed position on security, most of the problems come from click-happy members that are more than happy to spread the latest links that, unbeknownst to them, contain malware.

In 1969, General William Westmorland, then Commander-in-Chief of U.S. forces in Vietnam predicted that the use of computers for military applications would create an entirely different Army on the ground and an “automated battlefield.” Over 40 years later, Westmorland’s vision is becoming a reality.

The U.S. military makes extensive use of computers in every environment – land, sea and air. More importantly, wireless technology allows computer systems to be linked together to give field commanders a complete picture of what is happening, down to the squad level. While many of these systems are fixed-function – embedded in equipment to perform a specific task – these systems, combined, provide real-time information that is vital in on the spot decision making at all levels.

Military computers, by design, are capable of taking more punishment and working in the field. Enclosures are sealed and components in the computer are and installed to, corrosives, wind and even Em/RFI radiation without being damaged.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) has played a large role in making it possible for unmanned aircraft to be flown by wire from thousands of miles away, conduct missions and return to its home base safely. In he future, the same technology will be applies to tanks as well.

Ships now have the capability of launching missiles from ships sitting hundreds of miles off the coast of a country and hit a target deep inside the interior with incredible accuracy.

The greatest vulnerability to the military use of computers is the demonstrated ability for another country to hack into our computer systems and either steal data or wreak havoc. That is the next obstacle for the military to overcome.

Computers continue to dazzle and amaze users with the growing number of applications that can be run. While early computers appeared to be limited to word processing and other office functions, later computer designs and processors were more powerful and capable of performing a greater number of applications quickly and in tandem. Greater power also meant that computers could perform more complex operations in a growing number of fields.

The computer’s versatility clearly depends on its ability of run multiple programs and processes at the same time. In order to meet that criteria, a computer must have the most current operating system, hardware and peripherals. With this basic definition of computer versatility met, its capabilities and potential are limitless as long as users remember one fact – a computer can only do what it is told to do within the boundaries of the software’s programming. That said, the more powerful and diverse the software, the more a computer can do.

Computers are at the heart of endeavors in every profession. Education is making improvements in the way teaching is done by introducing computer driven LCD projectors into the classroom. The visual impact of actually seeingwhat is being taught re enforces learning and makes it interesting at the same time.

Science has benefited tremendously from the computer’s ability to transform complex material into understandable and logical information. Computer models are helping scientists gain a better understanding of scientific inquiries from the atom to zoology. Medical doctors and researchers are learning more about the human body and the diseases that affect it and at the same time, astronomers and physicists are learning more about the origins of the universe and the possibility of other life forms.

Telecommuting has been a growing business trend during the past decade and marks a departure from the traditional predetermined eight hour office job. An increasing number of companies are permitting their employees to work from home. Other workers are finding that that they are tired of working for an employer and set out on their own. Computers and the Internet are critical this new career path.

At the center of working from home is the office area. Space and location are important considerations to ensure privacy and efficiency. The next consideration is furniture. Choose a desk or work station that fits into the work area comfortably and has sufficient work and storage space and make sure good lighting is available.

The computer is the most important home office tool a telecommuter uses and an important investment. While the computer doesn’t necessarily need to be the top of the line, it needs to have the right features to get the job done. The monitor, on the other hand, needs to be selected with eye safety in mind. A low resolution LCD display is a must to reduce eye strain. Many home workers prefer a laptop over a desktop because of its mobility and spacing saving features. An all in one printer with fax and scanning capabilities is another important office tool. Purchasing a good combination printer is an efficient choice that also saves precious storage space.

The internet connection needs to be cable or DSL for maximum productivity. Its also worth considering a router for the periphials and to provide an extra measure of security. For total security a strong virus scanning program and fire wall need to be installed on the computer.

Some people believe that it is difficult to network with an online education. However, this is not true. Many individuals with an online education are able to effectively network, building connections and relationships that can build your brand or demonstrate your expertise.

Online educational institutions such as those found on earnmydegree.com allow students to tap into their network. From the start, students are able to connect with others in their field/major, as well as instructors who are able to provide helpful advice. Additionally, some online schools provide resources for students to connect with, such as employers and affiliations in an area of interest.

Networking online is able to be accomplished by anyone, and those with an online education may be more familiar with such efforts. Using connections can go a long way to communicating one’s area of expertise. Once the student/graduate learns how to network, he or she is able to build their brand and take the steps necessary to make meaningful connections.

Individuals can also take advantage of many online resources. Professional networks, social networks, and other communities (such as those based in a locale), offer a number of opportunities to network. Staying in touch with others can allow individuals with an online education to network and find avenues to pursue.

Whether you know someone who is considering an online education, or are considering one yourself, networking with such a degree is not difficult. Just like it is with any background, steps must be taken in order to network effectively, allowing for potential success.

Until recently, Internet access and activity was immobile in the sense that the user sits down at a computer that is physically connected to the Internet in order to access and use it. The user connects to an Internet Service Provider’s server using the standard TCP/IP protocol. From that point on, any properly entered website or email adress iss routed through a series of networks to the appropriate address by translating the domain address to an IP address using a Domain Name System (DNS) server. All of this happens in a matter of milliseconds.

Enter the world of wireless computing. With today’s laptop computers, cell phones and various other mobile communicating devices, wireless computing is possible with the addition of a compatibleinternal or external wireless adapter, a wireless ISP (WISP), and WISP provided ”sniffer” software. Once set up, wireless computing is possible from anywhere that the sniffer software can find a WiFi router. Once connected Internet traffic uses the same system of networks as its desk bound cousin.

Wireless communication is rapidly becoming the preferred form of broadband access. New laptop computers typically come with a wireless adapter installed. A laptop that does not have an internal adapter can still be wireless with an external wireless adapter that plugs into a USB port. There are also a growing number of national and local wireless Internet service providers throughout the country. National providers are the best bet because coverage is unlimited. The next generation of wireless Internet computing is expected to be Wi Max. Limited Wi Max introduction began in 2009 and expanded through 2010. Wi Max is touted as being significantly faster.

Networks will also evolve as the Internet becomes even more integrated into our everyday activities.

The first basic computer was turned on in 1937a nd for several years there was a stady advance in computer science and technology. Beginning in the late 1970s and into the 1980s the pace of discoveries in the technology began to accelerate. The advances began to come in expotential proportions during the 1990s and in the first decade of the 21st century, the advances have been staggering.

First and foremost, the Internet has become quicker thanks to high speed broadband. This improvement has brought more people online, increased e-commerce and led to more innovations in communications. The iPad, smart phones, Google, YouTube and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter can be traced directly back to the increased speed and power of the Internet during the past ten years.

Microsoft Windows has become the most dominant computer operating system platform in the world over the course of this decade. Each version, in spite of initial glitches, has made computing more intuitive and sophisticated. Microsoft Office is considered by many to be the standard package for word processing, spreadsheet and presentation development and management.

Apple has continued to surprise and delight its followers with an array of new computer related product. The iphone was introduced in 2007 as the first of a generation of smart phones that continues to improve. Apple’s introduction of the iPad in 2010 has attracted an entire new audience of users and shows great promise in several areas, notably the classroom.

Over the decade there have been several other milestones. In 2000 Nielsen reported that half of American households had Internet access. The introduction of high speed Internet access allowed quicker access, downloads and an increased appetite for information. Coupled with the increased speed of computer processors and simplified software, the Internet has become an innovative adn fl business tool, entertainer and educator.

International politics and relations were once the sole domain of conuntries’ leaders and diplomats. It was unsual and rare for an ordinary citizen to have any influence in the affairs of a country or how a country was perceived by the rest of the world. Computers are changing the rules that govern how countries deal with each other.

The Wikileaks scandal, regardless of the matter of legality, showed how easily diplomatic correspondence could be obtained and made public. While there was little damaging information from the correspondence, the diplomatic community will undoubtedly be more cautious about internal communications in the future. The long term effect on international relations, particularly with the United States, remains to be seen.

The day to day events that lead to the overthrow of Egypt’s President Mubarak were reported to the world first hand by Egyptian citizens through the Internet, Facebook and Twitter. The Internet also played a role in communications among th groups pushing for governmental change in Egypt. In addition to a political revolution, this was a communications revolution because it demonstrated the power of the computer in effecting change.

As Lybia attempts to ovethrow the government of strongman Moammar Gadhafi, the Internet is providing daily coverage of the struggle. Much of the first hand information is coming through Facebook and Twitter.

The darker and less publicized role of computers in government politics is the growing presence of cyber attacks on American civilian and government computers by other countries, notably China. In 2007 China mounted attack on Department of Defense computers. In 2008, China and other European hackers staged a coordinated attack on 2,500 American corporate and government computers. Most reecntly, Chinese hackers broke into the Canadian Finance and Trade Board in February 2011. Cyber war plays a growing role in the state of diplomatic relations between countries and makes rela.

The Internet is an extremely useful and entertaining tool in which people utilize on a daily basis by the millions. However, while in fact the Internet poses plenty of positive elements, it also poses an equal amount of negative elements. As due to the fact so many people flock to the Internet to perform any number of specific tasks, there are entities who want to tap into this large concentration of people and find some way to benefit via illegal or unethical activities. This general concept is how viruses and scams came to be so prevalent in the online world. As a result of these potential problems, it is vital that everyone utilizing the Internet secure their computers to ensure these threats do not make their way into an unsuspecting machine.

There are various ways in which these malicious entities attempt to penetrate a computers defenses to initiate an attack. Whether through email, pop-ups on a host site, or cloaked products posing as something they are really not; the threats come in many different forms. Securing a computer might sound like an overwhelming concept to those who are not as savvy with the Internet and computers in general, but it can be done in a couple fairly simplistic steps.

First and foremost, ensure you have a decent anti-virus program installed on the machine. These programs typically run in the background and periodically scan your machine for potential threats that are looming. Secondly, set your machine to automatically download and install updates for the operating system as they are released. These updates generally contain important security updates for the operating system that are pivotal in the overall well-being of your system. Protecting yourself via these two fairly simplistic activities can cut 99% of the potential threats down to size.

Many people own computers and are connected to the Internet in this fast-paced, modernized world in which we all live. However, due to the overwhelmingly large amount of people whom are entering the Internet for the first time, there is still a great deal of confusion and even ignorance pertaining to how to properly implement computer security and stay safe on the Internet. As a result, while there are plenty of Internet savvy people connected to the online world, there are many occurrences in which people get hacked or attacked by a particular virus because they are not performing the basic security functions required to withstand potential threats.

The first thing that everyone who owns a computer and is connected to the Internet should do is ensure the patches of their operating system remain updated. These patches are released by the developer of the operating system as is necessary to implement fixes to various bugs and problems. However, these updates also patch up prospective security breaches that existed in the software prior to the patch. As a result, going without patching, as many people do, leaves these loopholes open to potential threats that are seeking a way in to your system.

Secondly, always have a viable anti-virus software running in the background. This software does not have to be anything special, just something that can pick up potential issues and receives updates on a regular basis. Anti-virus software generally runs in the background as you work on your computer and is there as a safety net should something try to make its way in as you are surfing, or doing other things on the Internet. Additionally, they have automated system scans that will generally run at off times throughout the night while the computer is not being used to deep check for underlying issues.

The Internet is a widely used entity worldwide; with more people connecting to it on a daily basis. Just two decades ago, it was somewhat uncommon for people to have a computer in their home and be connected to the Internet. However, in our modern, fast paced society, it is now uncommon for someone not to have Internet access. The Internet presents a great deal of opportunity for those who utilize it. Some people prefer to stick to using the Internet for entertainment and generalized surfing. Others prefer to use it to quickly and effectively find large amounts of information via search engines and other various sources. However, one of the most prevalent opportunities that the Internet presents is the ability to make money. The Internet is vast world of unclaimed real-estate for potential business opportunities.

The fact the Internet provides a large amount of opportunities for business is proven by the inception of Internet and computer marketing divisions at already established brick and mortar companies. These companies who have already seen success realize that the Internet is the future, and holds a vast array of opportunities. As a result of this, they have shifted a portion of their emphasis on creating a web site and to partake in various Internet marketing campaigns. In conjunction to larger, more established businesses setting up their online headquarters, entrepreneurs and those partaking on the journey that ties into beginning a business have begun utilizing the Internet to do so.

The reason why the Internet is such a friendly place to start a business is due to the fact that it reduces the cost of a great deal of overhead that would otherwise be necessary while opening a physical shop. Web sites prove to be an extremely functional and viable place for people to shop, purchase services, and request contact information. For these clear and concise reasons, the Internet is the future of business. And it is prevalent that more businesses will begin moving the majority of their emphasis to their online headquarters, creating a vast commercial digital marketplace.

For many people, the internet is a vast world full of entertainment and droves of readily available information. While in fact this holds true in many cases, the internet can also bring many potential dangers to those who are not prepared to utilize it and know what to look out for. Unfortunately, the simple act of surfing or being redirected to the wrong web site can result in a virus being installed on your machine. As people use the internet, they become more aware of the tell-tale signs that a web site is shady and more than likely should be avoided. However, with new people connecting to the internet on a daily basis, and in large numbers, there are plenty of victims that the malicious software developers can take advantage of.

The problem lies in that some web site developers are so bent on making a quick buck, that they purposely program their web site to bombard visitors with droves of advertisements and deceptive opt in opportunities. To the common Internet user, these aspects are something that would cause them to immediately exit the site, mostly due to frustration and annoyance, but also due to the fact that these types of web sites typically carry viruses with their potential installments. However, there are plenty of people who are unaware that this is not common practice, and they unknowingly click on the flashy advertisements that then download and install a seemingly helpful program to their computer only to have it turn out to be a random virus. These programs consist of a wide range of different things, ranging from simple spamming and random pop-ups, to Mal-ware and identity theft.

The unfortunate fact lies in that there is simply not enough information readily available to new users of the Internet. If they do not have someone coaching them along as they are first introduced to the online world, it is quite easy to fall victim to the vast array of different ways that people employ to infect a prospective computer with a virus.

The amount of people who own computers and people who are connected to the internet in one way or another is growing at a seemingly exponential rate. As more people become connected to the internet, the number of people who are unfamiliar with the potential problems that can occur will also rise. This poses a problem for the public, but an opportunity for those people who program viruses and run scams via the online world. Whether through email scams, or malicious programs posing as helpful software; there are many roadblocks that can impede the positivity a successful Internet surf can bring. As a result of this epidemic, there are new types of viruses popping up all the time, and developers of anti-virus software and computer security professionals are always having to seek the fastest and most efficient response when something new does pop up.

Many people are unaware of the constant struggle being conducted behind the scenes. The unfortunate fact lies in that there are many bright minds behind the development of computer viruses, and as such, there are always new ways that they discover to find loopholes through the most recent anti-virus measure implemented by the public. This in turn puts pressure on anti-virus software developers to find these loopholes and patch them accordingly before too many people get taken advantage of. When a patch is implemented and the prospective problem is fixed, many more loopholes pop up that in turn need their own patch.

As long as there are people who write viruses and conduct cyber-attacks on private and public entities, there will be a vast demand for security professionals who can implement the latest advancements in security technology to neutralize the constant stream of threats. These professionals will continue to track down the latest methods being employed by the authors of common viruses and take the appropriate measures to send updates to the millions of people who use their software and consult their expert services.

Computers are becoming more of a necessity in all aspects of the modern world. From home offices that incorporate a computer network into daily activities, to corporate offices that utilize intranet capabilities to keep all of their employees in the loop, computers are a vastly growing aspect of importance in the daily lives of people. Unfortunately, with a rise in popularity and attention by consumers and professionals alike, computers and the internet become targets for non ethical practices by people looking to make a quick buck. These practices come in the form of the countless types of viruses and cyber attacks that are employed on a daily basis by these people.

Fortunately, there are always lines of defense when dealing with issues such as viruses. To begin with, the most important line of defense, and the basis for all virus protection is common knowledge of what to avoid in the internet world that might make a machine susceptible to attacks. These types of things to avoid include malicious emails that contain a file you are unfamiliar with, strange pop ups with flashy indications saying to click a specific button that will then install a malicious program on your machine, as well as general suspicious looking web sites or downloadable files. Knowing what specific aspects of these different things to look for prior to taking action is the key in protecting yourself from potential attacks or problems.

After you have become familiar with some of the basic outlines, it is important to explore what exactly it is that allows a virus to function the way it does. Clearly, there are a vast array of different viruses that exist in the online world that all exhibit different properties; however, the most common form of virus are programs that have been downloaded unknowingly that when activated, act as a doorway for additional viruses that can then leak your personal information to the developer of the program for use in a number of ominous matters. By understanding the basics of these viruses you will have less trouble remedying a problem after it occurs.

Getting the office ready for networking can be expensive. What will the small business owner do when they are needing to switch locations? There are options available to a small business owner. Going wireless is possible but be prepared to do it properly it can be a little daunting for a first time installer to do.

For the small business a wireless router is typically like the one found in the home. The bad news about the router being home grade is that the security may not be like the business grade router. It may lack the security that is needed.

A business grade router will offer features that a home grade router will not. The business grade router will offer a larger antenna and will provide more coverage for the office. If security of the network is a concern than it may be best to have a network server authentication such as RADIUS in place. Some offices may need to have several wireless access points to work together and cover the whole office. A home wireless router will not be able to do this. You may want to have the option of knowing who is accessing your wireless network system. If there is going to be guests in the office and they may need to connect to the internet you will want a way for them to connect without being able to access the rest of your network.

An issue with a wireless network is if other offices are next door or within the area then you would not want them to be able to access your network. What can you do about that? The other option would be to use cabling. It is expensive to cable a office however, it does offer the benefit of higher network speeds. It is really totally up to what the business needs and preferences are.

The most popular technology in many sectors is the wireless network. It is available everywhere and it is affordable but yet easy for everyone to use. A wired connection has over the years had issues with the security and so does wireless. The home wireless technology problems consists of piggybacking, wardrivingl, and unauthorized usage of computer. There are some steps that can be taken to help in maintaining security measures. This will also be useful in helping in reducing any virus attacks that could occur on the computer system. With the amount of technology that is available today the possibilities of securing the system is easier.

Here is some steps that can help in securing a wireless network within the home. When addressing the name of the systems network it is usually set as service set identifier or it may be set as extended service set identifier. This is typically used to gain unauthorized access. The network should be encrypted that way only computers that have the correct code key will be able to access that network. The password of the administrator should be identifiable only to those that need to be able to access the network. It should be a personalized one that only the authorized people would be able to identify. It may even be a good idea to use one that does not contain alpha numeric characters but only has alphabetic characters in it. Precede with caution when you are enabling file sharing. If at all possible it is best to not file share.

You should also remember to keep all access point software up to date and keep any software used to fix bugs up to date too. It would also be a good idea to check what the internet service provider has as far as updating their software. You should use these suggestions when you have a wireless network in your home or office.

It easy to connect several computers together in your home or office. You may wonder if you really want to network them together but there are valid reasons to do this. If a business thinks that it is a good idea then there must be a good reason for it.

A family has the advantage of being able to share their software among each computer. The advantage to the parent is that they can see their childs activity. If in a office enviroment someone can check what activity is going through the computer systems.

A ethernet is one of the easiest ways that this can be done. This is done through a card or a residential gateway. A residential gateway is where it is plugged into the computer such as a router. The ethernet cards does not cost much to purchase but consists of cables that go from every computer to the main server. This is the most dependent method that is used. It is also the fastest.

You can also hook up to a residential gateway. This connection also comes with the option of a wireless connection. This would mean that it would need a wireless card. That would mean that it would be a little more money to keep up.

Setting up a Local Area Network is really not difficult once the hardware has been set up. You can find a wizard in the Windows software program that will help you. There is a step by step guide there that should help you along the way.

Once the network is setup any files that are on the computer can be designated to be shared. The person that owns the computer can setup programs or files that they wished to be shared with others. A device such as a printer can also be shared in this network. This is also a great way for the home networker to play multi player games with each other.

A way that you create a network without any wires is called a wireless network. You are able to make a wireless network if you have a wireless router. When you do this you will make a radio connection between the computers so that they can communicate and also be able to connect to the internet without being connected by any wires. The signal for the wireless can go through walls or even floors so there is no clear path needed to get a signal.

Local Area Networks are what most people are referring to when discussing wireless networks. This does not mean that the network will cover your whole entire neighborhood but just one building which means your home. You will want a wireless LAN if you want to have a wireless network in your home. The easiest way is to use a wireless router. It is amazing to see the results and not have to find ways to hide all the wires that you once had.

A wireless router is considered a base station that is assigned the task of providing internet access to a wireless network. This can also allow for several different computers to connect to the internet without having to use any wires. It is considered to be like a wireless access point because not only can each computer access the internet through it but the computers can also transfer files to each other.

Once the wireless router has been installed you will be able to connect all of the computers together and connect any of them to the internet. It does not even matter if they are all on. There is no need to configure a router it is already prepared to begin its task. This is the only task that they were designed to do!

A computer network is classified by the hardware and the software technology that is used to connect the network. The devices that are being interconnected are ethernet, optical fiber, HomePNA, wireless LAN, and communication power line.

A ethernet is a communication standard for networks where a twisted pair cable or coaxial is used. In LAN communication is where it is most widely used. The ethernet uses several standards and mediums to communicate between the devices. The devices that are used will include hubs, bridges, switches, or routers. When the wireless LAN is used there is wiring need to connect the devices.

When using a wire technology the twisted pair wire is most often the medium used for telecommunication. The twist pair cables are made of copper wires that are twisted into pairs. A wide use for cable television, office buildings, and certain worksites for a local area network is the coaxial cable. The coaxial cable consists of either a copper or aluminum wire that is wrapped with insulated layer of material that is flexible with high dielectric constant. With the use of a fiber optic cable higher transmission speeds are possible. The fiber optic speeds are hundreds of times faster than that of a coaxial and thousands time faster than that of a twisted pair wire.

The technologies of the wireless network include the terrestrial microwave. The terrestrial microwave is when a earth based transmitter and a receiver are being used. Usually the antenna to these are seen on top of buildings. The communication satellite will have microwave radio as the mean for communication. The cellular and PCS system use different radio technologies according geographic areas. The wireless local area network (LAN) is where high frequency radio is used in a similar way to cellular and radio technology that is of low frequency. The infrared communication can take signals and send them between devices within a small distance.

Evolving technology is relied on heavily in the current business world for a small businesses computer network. It may seem overwhelming but setting it up yourself can be done. There is no need to hire a specialist in the field. Below is some tips to help you get started in doing it yourself.

Efficency is the greatest advantage to computer networking. The networking allows the computer to be used to its full advantage and even in ways that may not have even been thought of before. When networking you are promoting sharing whether it be software or printers. The internet is even being shared by all employees that are in the company. One of the best decisions that a small business can make is the one to network the computers. It may help to make a sense of community among the employees and could even increase productivity.

If you are wondering where to start when networking a small businesses computer systems it is with the operating system. Which one does the company prefer? The standard ones are Windows 7, Windows XP, and Apple OS X. Any of these can easily network and be managed. You can manage them from a laptop or desktop computer. There is some equipment outside of the computers that is needed. One or more routers depending on the area will be needed and some ethernet cables. If the network is wireless then a cable will be needed to link the router to a main computer that will be considered the server. That will connect the router to the internet connection. This will allow for the computers that are external with wireless capabilities to connect to the local area network. It really is that easy to connect a computer network yourself and not have to pay someone to do it.

No matter what size the business is the software needs on their computers are about the same. Just the same as if you were talking about the use of a GPS. No matter what type of car that you drive the GPS application would work the same way.

The inventory of a smaller company may even be more important to keep track of. The accuracy of keeping inventory is key to high profit margins. By being accurate these provides better customer service and will keep these customers coming back. The issue is not going to be about what types of services that you provide. It is not even about what products that you sell.

A smaller business will not necessarily need the same software that a larger one does. The computer database requirements will be similar and the things that you will need to consider are too. The system should contain accurate and relevant information to the business.

The system that a business uses should be able to provide reports that are relevant. It will take more work if each application is operating separately. By using a system that is fully integrated a business will be able to see the profit margins maximum amount.

A small business owner will sometimes think that they can get by with less work. Everyday there are small business owners that are struggling and some just decide giving up is their best option.

It is hard to compete without having the latest technology, such as a GPS application or a RFID tag. You would be wasting money if these technology is not used to its advantage. A small business owner can get the help of database designer and make use of the hardware and software integration.

A database designer familiarizes his or her self with the systems can run more efficiently with the latest GPS application or hardware. The will use that knowledge along with what your company does daily.

Legitimate gaming websites online exist to make sure that you have a safe and secure place where you can put down bets, play games, and have fun. It is important for you to realize, however, that not every gaming website online is a legitimate one. Some of these gaming sites exist to pull the wool over your eyes, to bilk you out of money, or to promote illegal gambling.

Knowing how to find safe and secure online casino games is vitally important. To ensure that you are only playing on secure, safe and trusted online sites do a search for reviews and information on the site before you send them any money or personal information about yourself. For example, if you want to see what other players are saying about a specific site before you log in, do a search engine search for the name of the online casino and the word “reviews.” If the site has been around for any length of time, you should find information about it online, including objective, unbiased reviews from people that have visited the site or used it in the past.

If a site is likely to give you a virus infection or to subject you to the whims of hackers, the reviews will probably tell you so. If the reviews are positive and the site seems trustworthy, then you are probably safe. If people are saying bad things about the site, then you should probably avoid it. On the other hand, if nobody seems to be saying anything at all, then it might be wise to step back and wait until other users can test out the site and share their experiences before you end up immersed in something that you will regret. It is important to make sure that you and your computer are safe when playing online casino games.

A businesses most indispensible tool is their computer. A business needs to have a top notch computer security system in place no matter how big they are. There are many computer security companies at there that can ensure that a business or organization security needs are being met.

These security companies are available to help you set up programs on your computer to keep it protected from any unauthorized person. The security networks highest level will be used to set up passwords and firewalls.

The company will look at the servers and see how secure it is. It is vital that this is secure because this is where email comes through and computer applications are ran. The servers will need to be in a area where it has a maximum level of security. Some of these computer securtiy companies even offer a secure location to place the servers.

A server can also provide company information security. It will also aid in protecting the IT infastructure security. All of the updates and changes can be seen by you (if set up that way). By you monitoring the server you will know if there has been a unauthoritzed user on it or a activity that is questionable.

Backup of data should be done to help keep it protected. This backup data should be placed in a safe location in case of a computer crash. This will enable a business to be able to retrieve the data and then have it restored back to normal. It the information is sensitive and only to be available to certain people then it should be encrypted. This will allow only those authorized people to view the data.

The computer security company will help a business put together a security system that will be hard for someone to break into. When researching these companies be sure to check their credentials.

When your home computer runs slow it can cause you to become frustrated. This can cause many of the important programs on your computer to not function like it normally does. This may even cause the program to lose your information causing more problems for you. What causes this to happen to your computer?

A virus may have affected the computer causing it to run slowly may be one reason. A virus that has contaminated the computer can cause many problems and may even cause the computer to completely crash. There are anti virus programs out there that can prevent this from happening. You should find one that comes with frequent updates to help keep your computer from becoming infected with a virus.

Adware or spyware may be the problem for a slow running computer. When surfing on the internet you may unknowingly visit a website that may download adware or spyware onto your computer. There are some websites that use cookies to keep track of a persons online activity. A cleaner program may be necessary to help with protecting a users privacy.

The registry of the computer may need to be optimized and could be causing the computer to run slower. Errors may appear in the registy because of file or programs that have been deleted. These can be fixed by programs that are on the market.

There are programs that can be found on the internet for free. Some of these may not be what they claim to be however. They may be just like the ones that are already affecting your computer so take precaution when finding one. The best prevention is to download a high quality registry software to your computer. You will want to find software to help with anything that may affect your computer registry.

People who have a visual impairment can now independently use computers thanks to a Windows program known as JAWS. This program will audibly state the names of the icons that are on the computer. The blind or visually impaired now have this great news and do not have to depend on anyone to help them on the computer. This program will help them use programs on the computer such as Microsoft Office. They are even able to create and edit the documents or spreadsheets themselves.

This is a experience that they can not only have of accessing the internet but be able to be fully independent on all computer usage by them. They are capable of using any social media websites such as MySpace and Facebook on their own. It is also easier for the impaired individual to do work or other activities from a computer.

NAS storage, a powerful hardware can be teamed with JAWS and aid in making the playing field level for these people. With all of the advancements that are coming out everyday the way of computers it is no telling what else will come out to help the visually impaired and bring improvements for the personal and work computing needs.

People often wonder will the world someday be taken over by computers. The answer is probably no but no one knows for sure. However, computers has made the world easier and a more productive place to live. This in turn makes it a more enjoyable place. With the addition of computer technology you can play games and research anything that you want to know in a short period of time. You have the capability of talking to someone all around the world just by clicking your mouse. Computers is one of the greatest advancements in technology.

One thing that is associated with computer technology is home schooling. When research or writing a paper whether in a traditional school or home school environment a computer is a necessity to learn. There are three known ways to use a computer technology in the home school environment.

The home school teacher will be the first to benefit from owning a computer for the purpose of home schooling. As the teacher you will be able to surf the internet for ideas for curriculum. There also can be found study guides and programs that are available just for the home school environment. Some of these can be altered to fit the needs of the students that are being home schooled.

If you have a student that is have trouble with a certain subject the internet may be helpful. There are many things that are available out there to help with this problem. Help for your student can come from having a virtual tutor, online school, or a curriculum that is available online. This is a great way to get help with a subject that is difficult for the student.

Library time may be limited for your student and they may not learn the research techniques that come from going to the library but the internet can teach them about researching. This can be done by assigning them a topic that they can research online. It may be a good idea to give them a time limit on the research such as a hour and see what they find.

The computer in the home school environment can totally change your classroom and the way that the student learns. It will also have a impact on the way that you are teaching. This will change the way that the student is learning and give them a chance to learn about interesting topics. There is a great wealth of information out there for them to learn. It is unlimited.

Calculations were mostly done by humans before the invention of computers. At that time they were known as calculating machines and are now called calculators. At that time it was the people that used the calculators that were called computers. These people were often young women. They would sit in these big rooms filled with desktop computers and perform these calculations on the machines together. An example, of this is the aerodynamic ones that are used for aircraft designs.

The development of calculators has continued but the development in computers has the advantage over them. The computer has a response that is conditional and a larger memory capacity. This allows for the numerical calculation to be automated and symbol manipulation tasks automation as well. Every decade since the 1940′s has seen a significant change in the technology of computers.

Mere computation is not the only platform that computers are used for. They are used for automation processes, communication that is done electronically, equipment control, and various other things. Each field now has its own requirements for the hardware. These requirements have came in the form such as touch screen to create a user interface that is natural.

A mechanical device was the first aid in mathematical computations aside from written numbers. The slide rule is a sophisticated example that has numbers that are shown on the logarithmic scales as lengths a cursor setting and aligning scales that slide will perform the computation. Another form to represent numbers was the analog form. This is where a voltage or other form of physical property was set to be in proportion to the number. The analog computer was designed before World War II by Vannevar Bush.

When electronic amplifiers were invented it made calculating machines faster than the ones before them. They were faster than mechanical or electromechanical predecessors. The amplifiers that were vacuum tube became solid state transistors, and the quickly became integrated circuits. These are continuing to improve.

A set of computers that are connected together forming a network is known as a computer network. When using a computer network the user can access data and share it and not even have to store it on their computer. This saves them disk space on their own computer.

The hardware and software that is used in the network establishment is what classifies the computer network. With ethernet, optical fiber, and wireless LAN networks being the most common. There are two ways these networks are supported. They are hard wired or wireless service. These networks will have support from a combination of these two or just one of them.

The hard wired method is the oldest used method and considered the most dependable. There are three commonly used wired technologies for networks. The most commonly used is twisted pair wire. Most commonly used in office buildings is the coaxial cable because it has the advantage of high transmission speeds. It is highly dependable and can transmit over 500 million bits per second. A fairly new type of hard wire system is the fiber optic which sends the information without using any electricity. It will use light instead and send the data at trillions of bit per second.

Wireless service is another method used to send information. This method is mainly used by the police department. It has a limited but secure distance that it can send the information. This distance is usually limited to about 30 miles. Microwave radio signals are used by communication satellites to send information. They will receive and send communication signals as they orbit the earth. Relay antennas and satellites are used for cellular and PCS transmission systems. The computer networks most popular method is by wireless LAN. It uses a technology that is both of a high and low frequency. It is generally the choice for networks because it can use multiple devices more easily.

When in a office you will probably find a computer being used.Sometimes the computers can be found in each employees office or in some offices the employees will share one main computer to access information. If you are wanting to get a computer or computers for a business it is advisable to think about what the businesses needs are beforehand.

There are some things that will need to considered before deciding what model of computer to buy. It has come under examination the health problems that computer usage among employees at offices have come under. Excessive computer usage has been known to cause carpal tunnel, eye strain, and inflammation of the tendons. The employer should try to take precautions to help prevent these problems. The usage of computers in most offices has become unavoidable though. The precautions that the employer takes will help them have lower workman compensation claims, less days that their employees will miss, and may help increase productivity. The employees should be encouraged to get out of their chairs and stretch their body.It will also help reduce some of the strain on the eyes. Purchasing ergonomically computer equipment will help with this problem. They will have features that will help with reducing some of these conditions. The keyboard and mice are usually designed differently than normal but the desktop is no different on the ergonomically designed computer.

When making the decision of what computer to buy you will want to read reviews written on different models that are available. You will also want to look at what type of warranty is available on it. It is important to look into what type of reputation that the manufacturer has. You will also need to think about whether you want to buy a laptop or desktop computer for your office. There are advantages to owning either it just depends on what is important to you.

Technology is advancing so quickly and the main focus has always been on the computer and how personal information is being transferred. If a patient has released their medical records to a office or hospital they have the right to know where that information is being transferred. That information will be reviewed by medical personnel so that they can bill the insurance company to be reimbursed. This will be where the term Health Insurance and Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and then the next term Authorization.Authorization is when a approval has to be formally made before access is provided. This is asking for permission before taking action. The term HIPAA is just an example to show what authorization means.

A program that records the activity in a system is known as a audit trail. This will tell who accessed the program and what activity that was done.It will be able to tell if any changes were made to the system as well. Whether these modifications were intentional will need to be investigated with the person who did it. It is important to have a anti virus software to prevent any intrusion of any system. This is to prevent any of the data from getting corrupted.

People that work with sensitive material and computers will relate to the term biometric. It is designed to be able to form a recognition of the user and authenticate them. It can be done from voice, fingerprints, or some other process. It was said that this type of process was coming years ago but it has just recently became a reality. Another useful computer term is the auto log off which means that the computer is in a timeout mode. If there has not been any activity for a certain amount of time then the user will be logged out of the computer. When wishing to reenter the computer system the user will need to log in with a password.

Alot of information is stored within a person’s home computer. This is information that the user would not want to reach into the wrong hands. If the situation was normal it would remain confidential information but with the internet availability it has been made harder. There are ways for someone to get the information from another persons computer system without them even knowing it.

A person can get a email that has been affected by a virus .Once the infected email has been opened it will leave the computer open to be attacked by a virus. This is also the same type of attack that can be transmitted when a computer program is being downloaded from a website. The download could install a program that will monitor a computers activity. This will therefore jeopardize the security of a computer.

Pirated software is referred to as Warez. This software is offered for free on the internet so people will tend to download it. If this software was bought legitimately it would be expensive .More than likely when downloading pirated software there will be spyware attached and it will have access to personal information on the computer running it.

The most common malware program is trojans. These programs will install like normal but will also be installing a virus or spyware. The person that has hacked the computer will then have access to personal information. It could include bank information, balances, or even passwords. The hacker may even be able to withdraw money from this account or even take over the identity of the owner of the computer.

It is a good idea to take measures to prevent security attacks. Here are some of the signs to watch for that a invasion may be taking place. Even though nothing is being clicked on a advertisement popping up may be a sign. Another sign is the internet connect is getting slower.

There are many benefits to computer networking. The networks are easy to hookup and to use.Sharing resources are easier when used over a network no matter what configuration is used.

The computers in a network share their hard disk space. When you first look at this it does not seem to be a big deal because large hard drives are found on many computers today. In this situation it is not the file storage that makes this capability important but being able to share files and applications are. All you need to do is find the file that you need then take it and copy it to your desktop. Once you do this you can then get to work on it no need to get up to go anywhere.

Networking is a great way to share applications. With this feature you can use another computers copy of software from their drive onto yours or use a groupware application that can route information between users. This way many users can work together. The network will connect them.

Another benefit of networking is printers can be shared. A major capital expense for a business is printers. Having to buy separate printers for each computer is expensive. It costs alot of money to upkeep these printers when a company has to buy ink for each of them. By networking a having one printer connected to several computers it is less expensive to upkeep.

Networking is a faster way to do business. A person does not have to run around the office asking questions about daily business it can be done over the network. All of the information should be right at a person’s fingertips. Why should a company waste paper sending out memos to the company employees when they can use email. Why run around getting information about a contact when they can have a contact list on the computer.

A lot of businesses have started going online in the past few years. The smartest of these businesses are already working in Web 2.0, even though a lot of people do not even know what the term “Web 2.0″ even means. Simply put, Web 2.0 means that the website owners and their customers (and even their potential customers) can have a more even dialogue about what the customers want. When the Internet first came out, nobody really thought about how much normal people can contribute to the online landscape. There were no blogs back in those days, and the Internet was more like a massive mall where the only content creators were professional journalists. However, those days are long over, and to make it as a website owner you have to listen to your customers.

There are lots of ways to do this, fortunately. You can put up forums, where people can discuss what they like, what they hate, and what they wish was available. You can get a lot of interesting ideas through sources such as that. You can also put up online forms, surveys, and even employ software which will tell you the net promoter score of your existing customer relationships. Online or off, the relationships that you have with your customers are some of the most important facets of your business.

There are lots of ways that you can get people involved and make your business look better while becoming more lucrative. You can produce sweepstakes, which will allow people to win prizes (often prizes that they can choose out of a small list) for the simple matter of supplying you with their contact information. You can expand on the sweepstakes idea and aim your sweepstakes at people who fill out the surveys you have already put up. You can also put together contests for the best new idea and let people vote until you have a small set of finalists.

Everywhere you look in the computer world there are computer networks. From the systems that are distributed and the internet you will find computer networks. The techniques of computer networks are improving and can reach more areas that are remote. With this and the applications available more purposes can be fulfilled.

Computer networks most popular business application comes in the form of resource sharing. A good example of this would be having a printer that is connected to a network that is shared. This will save in the expense of investing in hardware. All of the computers that are connected to that network can use the same printer eliminating the need for each computer to have its own printer.A network can also share scanners , fax machines, and other resources within the network. A program such as Outlook can be used for the company members to share reports or data through the network.

With the help of the internet one on one communication can be done without use of a phone. This gives the users remote access to information. This is also the way interactive gaming or other entertainment is accesses. Some people buy a computer just for the purpose of engaging in email or playing these games. There is also a Virtual Private Network that can be used to access information at home from the office. Every computer in the network is connected through a wire.

Protocols for communication is always improving.Communication in a network is increasing through wireless access protocol. Fixed wireless and Mobile wireless are the two different types of wireless. The desktop computers that are found in the office or home fit into either of these categories. With the help of a ethernet cable a notebook computer that may be found in a hotel room is considered to be mobile wireless. A old building that is unwired will typically have a network that is fixed wireless.

The use of computers has become so widespread these days have become known as the age of computers. The computer is constantly being updating with functions but is still considerable a remarkable machine. When computers first came into existence no one would have ever imagined what they would be like today. The computer age has taken over many career fields and established jobs for many people. There are still some people that believe computers are not a necessary thing to have in the home or the office.

There are obvious reasons to having a computer in the home or office. The computer is used for a variety of purposes. It gives the user a chance to progress in their work faster and progress with more efficiency. This will also allow the user to come to a decision quicker. These are some of the advantages to owning and using a computer.Computers are of more importance now then they used to be because of the progress being made in various industries. The computer can perform many of the routine tasks that a person or business needs done. Any of the mistakes a person makes that are minor can turn into a major mistake but a computer can perform them without that possibility. This is why many large computers will use the computer to perform these tasks.

Instead of using the old method of keeping records in file cabinets we can now have them neatly filed away in the computer. This is the more efficient way of having the file stored in the computers memory. The great advantage to a company of doing this is by saving them time and labor costs. Computers have the capability of performing calculations that are complex within a short amount of time. This is done not only within a short amount of time but is a very reliable method.

One might wonder why does one require networking at home? Homes have become increasingly segregated with multiple devices which require to be connected to the internet at all time. These devices could be your computer, tablet PC, Net Books, Home Theatre systems, Video game consoles, Fridge, Cell phones, or even your washing machine. Some of these use wires to connect and some use wireless modes of connection. It is certainly not possible to get a different connection for each device that requires internet connection. Hence one internet connection needs to be shared among all devices with little hassle of configuration each time you disconnect and connect. And this can be complicated at times when you are trying to run various devices with various programs like open office, the ares p2p software and the xvid codec working at once.

Home networks have been around since 30 years. Computers require networking the most and wired networking a desktop is the best way to network. Everyone feels the need and today more than 70% of the households in the United States have some or the other kind of networking available in their homes especially when they are fond of sharing music and video with aresgalaxy. There are varying modes of connection two computers to a single network. One method is to make one computer a server and other the client. This way one system has the internet connection and it shares with the other computer. You could also go for a router that will share the internet connection among the two or more computers and reduce your burden of configuring one comp as the server. It is fairly easy to configure windows based computers to be networked. A few setting from one comp can easily be ported over to another computer that needs to be networked over a USB or even a floppy drive. In a home network setting in a windows based PC, it is easy to share these settings as many times as one likes. You could also draw in other things in the home network such as a printer, scanner and a fax machine.

Wireless networks have given birth to cellphones and also have given a respite to home owners to get rid of the hassle of dealing with wires and LAN cards. Wi-Fi has been increasingly imparted in every device that needs to share an internet connection with an another device. From a smartphone to a hand held game console, are able to utilize on or the other protocol of Wi-Fi. Anything that connects to a Wi-Fi signal is a called as an station and the wireless network it connects to is am Access Point or an hotspot. A WI-Fi is capable of sharing a internet connection or just log into a network circle within 30 feet of the access point. Some access points have boosted range and can run up to hundred feet. This is more than enough to cover even a mansion.

There are different standards of Wi-fi which follow particular frequency. One laptop or smartphone might work on one particular standard or multiples. Although it incorporates back compatibility, it still does not work as streamlined as it does with its original signals. To be able to network your entire house by using wi-fi, you will have to make sure that every instrument that you are planning to add in the network is compatible with the wi-fi access point’s standard. If a computer does not have a wi-fi card, you can purchase it separately for a $60 and add it to the computer. To provide an access point you will have to add a modem which has wi-fi built in. You could also turn your computers access point into an access point by connecting the internet connection directly to the first computer. Make sure you secure your wireless network from swooping neighbors and other people who could make your bill to go up.

A router is an electronic device which joins multiple networks both wired and wireless. They come at the heart of every network ho9me and office. It is essentially a Layer 3 gateway that connects and operated networks with the OSI model. These routers use a Internet Protocol to use a common network OSI protocol. A router helps in connecting to the Local Area Network either wirelessly or with wires.

To set up a network yourself, you will first need to find a convenient location for the router either on the top of a table or even mounted on top of a table. Make sure the power cord and the internet modem are connected to the router. It is mostly via an Ethernet cable that most modems connect to a rotuer, find out a compatible Ethernet cable and connect them. Some routers and modems require different Ethernet cables. There are three ports behind the modem, the Uplink, WAN and the Internet. The modem goes into the Internet Ethernet port. Modern modems have different types of connections, so make sure you read the manual and not depend on this most probably out dated article. After this connect the computer to the router. Wireless router do not require a cable to connect to the computer, but a wired one needs a cable that connects to the LAN card on the PC. Now comes the software part where you will have to open the network administration tools and find the router section. You can go to a browser and type in 192.168.1.1, which will lead you to the routers settings. Here you will have to switch on the various setting and add in the DNS settings that were provided by your internet provider. The internet customer care will be more than helpful to guide you through this phase.

The reason we are including Local Area Networks here is because it is only this networking that you basically will be doing at you place. Hence it is essential that you understand this in and out before you attempt to network you computers and other connection with out without wires.

Local Area Network is a network that is used to connect other devices with local area network compatibility. It can be used in an office, home or an institution. Although it cannot be used to connect between cities and town because of need of long wires and multiple signal amplifiers in between the networks. Another thing that differs Local area networks from Wide area networks is the high transfer rates of the local Area Networks which can be compared to using a hard disk. Local area networks are made possible by Ethernet, Wi-Fi and twisted pair connections.

Local areas network were the first form of connections between computers and the first networks formed in the 1960′s. From then onwards there has been no looking back. It began in research labs and institutions where high speed connections between computers became a necessity. A proper form of local area network was developed by XEROX in 1973. Ethernet came to use in local area networks in 1984 and has become the largest form of connection between computers. Ethernet is the data link layer that connects the local area networks. Local area networks do not have to follow any predefine protocols. They are connected to a internet, cable modem, router or an ADSL modem. A local area network over a large area follows a spanning tree protocol that helps in preventing loops. It also helps in maintaining the quality of service and helps in segregation of traffic via VLANs. Local area networks may also contain other amenities like sensors, firewall, load balances, switches and even printers.

The word computer was first used way back in the 1613. It was used to define any person who did calculations. It continued to be used that way till the 20th century when the first actual computers were discovered. The work began to be used to machines which helped is doing calculations and was increasing used to describe these machines from then onwards.

The history of modern computing takes root in the development of programmability and automated calculation. Earlier forms of computers were the hand used abacus; the slide rulers and the famous antikythra mechanism that made every scientist wonder in amazement the scientific abilities of the earlier generations. This antikethra mechanism was built by the Hero of Alexandria. Also the Greek plays were programmed with mechanical ropes and strings that lasted for more than ten minutes. These were the earlier forms of computing geniuses that led the way for the modern generation to make further advancements into the field of computers. More such examples can be found in the Arab world where mathematical geniuses made various kinds of puzzles that scientists till today have not been able to solve. One such example is the astronomical clock that was invented by the genius Al-Jazaria in the year 1206 A.D. This was the first form of programmable computer which was analog in nature. It was bale to display the solar and moon orbits around the sun and the shapes of the moon were clearly represented. It also had automatic doors that slid every one hour to play music. This was the most sophisticated form of analog computer ever known to man at that time. It was controlled by flowing water. Another amazing such invention was the mechanical calculators that were constructed by the European engineers and mathematicians in the 16th century which led the way for modern computers.

To get where we are today, there have been a lot of innovations that have helped us get this far in the world of Computing. Without the work done by the great minds of the 10th century, it wouldn’t have been possible to be where we are today.

The first baby steps taken in the world of computing where in 1801 by Joseph Marie Jackuard who introduced punched paper cards that led to improvements in the textile industry. The punched cards were used as a template which served as a design for the textiles that were being produced by the custom designed sowing machine. This little invention was a huge advancement in the field of computers with incredible advancements being made thereafter using the same principles that were introduced by Jackuard. These punched cards were earlier forms of 1′s and 0′s. It was none other than Charles Babbage who finally in 1837 gave the first big push to computing as we know it today. He gave birth to the first mechanical computer which was called as the analytical engine. Although the device was never completed because of the financial ability of Charles Babbage, it still inspired many to look ahead of Abacus and mechanical calculators. The analytical engine was a special purpose calculator that could handle complex calculations of Trigonometry, Logarithms and even the complex polynomials. The machine received inputs through punched cards that were borrowed from Jackuards textile loom mills. Apart from reading the cards, it also could punch numbers into cards. It ran on the basic fixed point arithmetic. It had a memory where it could store a thousand number so f50 digits each. It was also thought to be able to handle square roots and other complex calculations that were not possible at that time by any other machines.

Charles Babbage’s first analog computer was never completed. He worked on its design till his death because of his inability to fix on a final design and the unavailability of money. His son made a partial construction of the machine after his death , but he too was unsuccessful in completing the machine. A political support at that time would have helped complete the design.

After Charles Babbage’s death in 1871, in 1880 Herman Holerith began the work on an recording machine that recorded data on a readable medium. This machine was not meant for control but rather to record data. He began using punch cards after facing problems with paper tape. He also invented Keypunch Machines and tabulators to process these punched cards. These helped lay the foundation of the modern processing in computing industry. Other such improved inventions were made by the company of Holerith for the use by the United States Census. The Holerith later became the beginning of International Business Machines or IBM. After that the 19th century saw some major technologies that still are part of the modern computing. The beginning of the 19th century saw the discovery of the Vacuum tubes and the industry standard punch cards. Also the discovery of Boolean algebra gave a huge boost to the processing information in the computers. Around 1950′s, many complex analog computers became widely used. Alan Turing is famously considered as the modern father of computers. Turing invented the Turning machine which gave birth to the electronic calculators which at that time was what an entire computer could do. Turning was named as the TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people of all time and indeed was very important in discovery of modern computing. He gave a different perspective to the Computer Science and gave birth to computers as a different stream of science.

Alan Turing’s work inspired many to begin work in developing computers further. People from all around the word began working on different forms of computers. Universities and colleges began offering courses that offered computer science as the new best stream of science. It had generated all the hype that was necessary to make it the next best discovery. Companies started to invest in research and development of this science.

One of the first fully electronic computers was discovered by John Atanasoff and Clifforf Berry in 1937. This binary computing device was known as the Atanasoff Berry Computer and was built at the Iowa State College. Although the machine was not built to be programmed, but it could solve problems of linear equations. This computer was the first one to use Vacuum tubes. The first programmable computer in the actual sense was discovered by Konrad Zune. He made the first working computer in 1940 and a programmable computer based on magnetic storage in 1955. In 1937 George Stibitz made the first digital computer in the Bell Laboratories. He made a calculator named as the Model K which came with the first known binary circuits. It was capable of performing arithmetic operations. Further modifications to this design added complex programmability and arithmetic problem solving. This kept on being developed further and further and the first hints of modern computing began to take shape in these computers. Digital electronic computers were widely developed by Claude Shannon and more scalable programming was developed which gave way to the first digital computer. The 1940 also the development of the Z Machine by Konrad Zuse. It was an electro mechanical machine that was capable of floating point arithmetic programmability. The British made some remarkable advancement in computers by manufacturing the Colossus computers that ran on millions of vacuum tubes. This computer successfully helped in solving war codes of the Germans in the second world war.

Only after the second world war did the first computers that resembled modern day computers. The first general purpose computer of the electronic form was manufactured by the U.S Army in its Ballistic Research Laboratory called ENIAC. ENIAC was the first computer which used arithmetic calculations with decimals.

Other developers looking at the design flaws in ENIAC began further developing on this design and developed a stored program architecture. It also began knowing as Von Neumann architecture which was developed by John Von Neumann. Neumann first defined the architecture for EDVAC in 1945. This began a rush in developing number of different computer projects that improved on the architecture of ENIAC. The first fruit of this computer programing was Manchester Small Scale Exp Machine which tool birth in 1948. Along with this also began was the Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator that was completed at the Cambridge University. It was the first non-experimental beginning for a computer. This designs were way ahead at that time and were widely accepted around the world. Although this machine was not completed till an additional two years. All these designs had implemented a stored program architecture which led to the first computers. By 1950′s the soviet scientists began work on ternary computers that were based on three no system. They used -1, 1, and 0. They used the same Van Neumann computer architecture, but instead of the binary number system, they used the ternary computer system. This led to the design of Setun for working on the Ternary numbering system at the Moscow State University. It was built for the use by the university for physics and mathematical calculations. This device also saw going into production and a few units were produced. But the size of this computer couldn’t help it go far in terms of the number of units sold.

The advanced computers today wouldn’t have been possible without the use of semiconductors and microprocessors. The miniaturization and the low power consumption was only possible because of the advancements made in handling transistors. Transistors brought about advancements in televisions, radio and electronics of all assorts. They have a big impact on the computers of today and also will continue to do so for the upcoming future.

The discovery of transistors in 1960′s meant that the earlier vacuum based computers that took almost a huge room to run and required continuous cooling to reduce the heat generated, were no longer required. Transistors replaced vacuum tubes everywhere and by 1960′s they were found in everything. These transistors naturally found their way to computers since they required less cooling, reliable, require less space, less power consumption and did not give erroneous results. The use of transistors was first demonstrated in the University of Manchester in the 1953. This transistorized computer was the first programmable electronic computer that was half the size of earlier models. The development of integrated circuit tech gave further advancements to computers along with the use on semiconductors to develop microprocessors. These microprocessors started replacing mechanical controls in computers and also other domestic appliances like washing machines and radios. By 1980′s computers were increasingly used in businesses and graphics designing companies. The computers also began their intrusion in to a few homes and small businesses. Still then computers were not yet as widely adopted as other technologies as telephone and television. With increasing penetration of internet, this spread of computers became common among homes across the world. Internet began spreading by the 1990′s and the 1995 Windows operating system had a large part in the spread of computers to every home. Apple’s Mac based computers too played a big part in the popularization of computers.

The computer development would be nothing without the simultaneous development of software that made the computers user friendly. Programmability was the main thing that defined computers from other devices. The factor of programmability let different users define their purpose of the machine and helped in its popularization and spread among different users. The development of languages that helped in defining the various used to them. And many softwares allow the users to help with the development. Some of these open source programs like openoffice from the website openoffice.org are like that. Computer language is not easily readable by humans. It has to be converted into human readable format after being applied.

A computer program can be thousands of words long or just a few lines long. The complex the solution, more complex the problem, longer a program. The execution of these coded programs lies on the hardware. A computer’s speed depends on the number of calculation it can do in a second. One of the most interesting aspects of computers is the stored program architecture. This applies to any computer with a Random Access Memory. Computer instruction have parts where few memories have to be kept at hand so that they can be accessed when required. This is only possible by having a stored program architecture which helps in saving a few bytes of memory at hand so that it can be easily used. These are called as jump instructions that have to be conditionally used and this has to be used only when required. Software has had to be developed twice as fast as the hardware to be able to be a step ahead of the hardware. In part the high requirements of the software has directed the hardware to a little extent. The development of machine code that helps in storing data is been quite useful in handling machine instructions. There are many more languages that have been developed since then for specific functions and uses.

You might have used a computer at least once if you are reading this, if not a desktop or a laptop, then at least a smartphone. Have you tried to wonder how everything in a computer works to solve you complex problems in matter of minutes and give you a display. To do these simple calculations, the computer depends on a highly evolved and complex mechanisms.

A regular computer has 4 essential components: the memory, the control unit , the output & input devices and the ALU (arithmetic logic unit). All these parts are connected with each other by wires and etc. Inside the parts there are hundreds to trillions of very minute electrical circuits which are commanded by means of electrical switches. Each circuit is representing a binary digit (bit) of info so that if the circuit is off it represents 0 & when it’s on it represents 1. All the components are collectively called a CPU (central processing unit). Since the center of 1970s CPUs is being produced on a single integrate circuit called microprocessor.

The control unit (commonly called central controller) manages the computers many components, it interprets & reads (decodes) the program instructions. Control unit in advanced computers controls the entire calculations on the computer. A few computers also have a program counter in the CPU. This keeps track of all the memory locations. The controller functions in a number of steps where, it first reads the code for instructions and then decodes it into numeral format. After this it searches the code for its next directions. After finding its next directives, it searches the code for data which is reserved in the RAM. This data is then sent to the ALU with the next set of directions. If some other hard ware is requiring to do the processing, then the ALU direct it to this hardware.

Continuing our article about the functioning of the Computer, we come to the next two important parts. The Arithmetic Logic Unit and the Memory. Arithmetic Logic Unit comes second to the Control unit in a computer. It performs vital operations based on logic and arithmetic. There are a few operations that the Arithmetic logic Unit is confined to like adding, subtracting, multiplying, trigonometric functions, and square roots. The older Arithmetic logic Units could only operate with whole numbers, hence making it impossible to calculate floating point arithmetic problems. Today computers Arithmetic Logic Units are capable of doing problems based on real numbers as well as floating point operations. Even with this much capabilities, Arithmetic Logic Unit rarely has to process these kind of complex problems, since every program can be programmed to be broken into parts and it can thereof be processed accurately. This is all where the programming in the software helps that breaks up the problem in the control unit before sending it to the Arithmetic Control Unit. Arithmetic Logic Units also helps with Boolean truth values, this is where the Logic part of Arithmetic Logic Unit comes into play. It helps in problems such as greater than or smaller than numbers. This is very important in the modern programming.

Memory is important for living things as well as any computer. It was the development of memory storage and its subsequent read and rewrite that were the first steps in computers life. The memory of computers is based on the aspect of cells. These cells have zeros and ones which can be read by various means and when combined, will give a certain value. The aspect of cells is also made to direct where what numbers will be stored. This stored information can be coded to mean anything. The central processing Unit does not help here in confining the memory to the particular cells, the software is what plays a major part here.

Computers wouldn’t have been as popular as they are today without having access to other computers and the internet. It is the ease with which information can be shared between two computers that has helped in the increasing popularity of the computer. Without the introduction of introduction of internet, the way people do business today would have been very different. It was only because of the introduction of interned has the world united in the form of social networks such as MySpace and Facebook.

In the 1950,s the United States military developed the SAGE system to co-ordinate between different regions. This led to other developments such as the Sabre computers that communicated between each other. By 1970′s the telecommunications engineers in United States started linking their computers through phone lines though a funding from ARPA. This was the first form of infant internet and was known as the ARPANET. This medium kept spreading until the 1990′s when the first true forms of the current internet developed. The World Wide Web project was imagined by the CERN project in Europe. The invention of the modern web goes to Tim Berners Lee, a British scientist who placed the first foundations of the internet. The first web browsers were the ViolaWWW and Mosaic that helped spread the web to others with computers. There was a phenomenal growth of internet by the time people began using internet and people began using it not just for work, but also for recreational purposes. The running of the internet is governed by various protocols developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force. This agency is responsible for the various aspects of the internet and its future. The current internet runs on the Internet protocol developed by this same agency. It has been developed extensively since its early inception and the way to create websites has been promoted from HTML 1.0 to HTML 5.0.

It is only because of internet that you can read this article today here. The running of the internet is governed by various protocols developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force. This agency is responsible for the various aspects of the internet and its future. Internet has space to accommodate ever person on the internet twice. Being this big means being as much complicated, and complicated it is.

The architecture of the internet is controlled form the software level to the hardware level at various levels. Hardware is mostly controlled so that it can support the software level. But when it comes to the software, the design and the standardization are rigorous. These are important for the reliability and the scalability of the internet for the future and the current versions. This responsibility belongs to the Internet Engineering Task Force. There are various work groups that are open to any person who want to improve upon the architecture of the Internet. This agency is also handled the task of designing and bringing into effect various Internet Protocols. These protocols are set up at various levels and help in running the internet. These protocols define the environment that the services have to operate. There are various layers such as the application layer, internet layer and the transport layer. The internet layer controls the domain names and the Internet Protocol Addresses. This is important in connecting computers to each other. The internet is not controlled by any government; it is a globally distributed network. This network connects many autonomous interconnected networks. Although it has no governing central body, it is controlled by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. This agency is headquartered in California. This agency helps in co-coordinating and identifying various domain names, application port numbers, internet protocol addresses and transport protocols along with a few other things are all controlled by this agency.

Internet has been vital to the unification of the world. It is because of internet that people around the world visit millions of information filled sites like this one every hour. With the spread of internet in every corner of the world, it has reached in the hands of a variety of people. In these variety of people it has found variety of used that have surpassed the initial uses that were predicted for the World Wide Web. No single use can be termed as the largest use, since most of the uses have been major change makers.

Internet is now accessible from cellphones, hand held game consoles, laptops, and even watches. The speeds which are achievable in today’s wireless internet are comparable to speeds that were not even imagined some ears back with wires. One of the benefits of internet is its use in the areas of education. All kinds of information is now available on the internet which has led to books being outdated. This has in one way helped reduce the burden on trees; on the other hand it has also reduced the burden on parents all over the world to spend less on books. Many sources are available on the internet which has helped in both informal and formal education. Other areas of improvement are seen in collaborative areas where people from all over the world can find other who are interested in the same works together online and put their work on the project. This has led to the development of some innovative software and many of which are completely free. Internet has made business so much easier with the availability of people all around the world to work on projects that would have been difficult otherwise. One of the biggest boons of internet has been its penetration into every aspect of business.

This is one question whose answer keeps getting bigger and complicated by each day. People around the world are finding innovative and some obvious uses of Computers in ways never imagines by the early inventors of this amazing machines. The definition of a computer stays the same old stamen that it is an electronic device which executes programs, but this definition does not serve its purpose. A computer with its many hardware modifications is becoming increasingly used everywhere. To discuss all the areas where computers are being uses is not in the context of this article. Hence we will be discussing here a few uses of computers which you most probably should know, but we will just repeat is for some kids who happen to stumble on this site for the very first time.

The biggest use of a computer would be to access the internet. Internet has helped increase popularity of computers to a great extent. The thought of being connected to another person around the world almost at the click of a button has been mind boggling to say the least. Then come uses such as calculations of math and other complex problems. This is what initially computers were designed for. Charles Babbage designed the first analytical computer for calculating math problems. Then came businesses which require something better than a human to calculate profits and losses. This let to further advancements in computers. Now computers around the world do calculations of dollars totaling over 1000′s of trillion per day, except the weekends. All the world’s stock exchanges are running on the backs of these computers which carry out billion of calculation simultaneously to give results of a purchase or a sale, almost instantaneously. Without computers, the modern stock industry would have been nothing or would never have been as globalized as it is now.

As we mentioned in our article on Uses of Computers, an article will not be enough to even barely scratch the surface of the millions of uses for computers. Hence this article will continue about the uses of computers.

Computers have increasingly becoming useful at homes and other entertainment destinations as a multimedia device. Computers are being uses as the entertainment centers of the house and replacing the traditional entertainment center, the television. If not replacing, then computer are being built into televisions or attached in the forms of set top boxes that download content video from the internet and project it on the television. Not just to view content, but also to design content. Computers are being used to develop animated movies and content that is increasingly finding its way to replace other real movies. It has also helped in a great deal the music industry by helping to distribute content and play content over computers. We cannot forget online shopping when we are discussing the uses of internet here. Anything brought from your next door mall cannot be easily brought online and without wasting money on travel costs. This has gone so far as to replace cyber Monday as the biggest shopping day instead of the traditional black Friday as the year’s largest shopping day. Other uses of computers include the ATM machines which are basically computers that spit out money of you have any. Then there are uses such as publishing and animating by the use of softwares such as word and Photoshop.

We could also include digital photography into the uses of computers since without computers people would still be using the old cameras. Computers have helped made many advancements in medicine by helping people diagnose diseases and helping doctors and researchers to find cures of various diseases with the aid of bio-informatics.

Home networks are increasingly becoming a necessity due the increasing number of computers and other peripherals requiring internet. One of the most convenient means of networking home computers is by using the clutter free means of wireless networking. Networking home computers in not doubt a big deal, but keeping them secure is much harder than actually networking the computers. Home networks are mostly installed by the home owners on their own and if any problem arises, it is she who has to find a solution as soon as possible. One of the most common problems associated with home networks is the problems associated with neighbors stealing the wireless networks and running the monthly bill through the roofs. With increasingly important works like banking transactions and exchange of sensitive information online, having any one even accidentally stumbling on your open network will mean doom for you. Even if the network is being used just for sending and receiving an few emails, an external user can cost a lot of damage. Some intruders gain access to other people’s computers to hack on to other computers. When the user under attack complains about these attacks to proper authorities, the person with the broken network will be the first suspect. Since their location will be hidden, it is only you that the authorities can prosecute.

You will have to find convenient means of protecting home computers from these nosy neighbors or worse a criminal using your network to send a threatening email. This all could end up costing you respect and lots of embarrassment. Hence securing computers is much more important than networking these computers. There are many measures that you can take to protect your computers from these intruders from accessing your networks. You can also take measures for detecting these intrusions and find out the people who have swooped in to your network.

Any access to some one else’s computer is an invasion of their privacy and is unethical and a crime. This does not stop the ones who are intended to break into other peoples computers and internet computers to steal identity, bank information, mails, to download illegal stuff, or to hack some other computers. It is fairy very easy to break into an open wireless network. Even a locked wireless internet connection will have many vulnerabilities that can be utilized by professional hackers for their use.

You can consult your home system support for different security information. If you are connecting to a Virtual Private Network from work, then you will have to impart special security to your network. There are various security policies and protocols concerning the company network. You will have to consult the personnel form work to find out about the security measures that they have taken. You will need an anti-virus more than ever with a wireless internet connection. Securing a wireless internet connection without an anti-virus is like a pig between lions. An anti-virus is important for any computer connected to internet. Keeping the antivirus software up to date is very important. Keeping the computer operating system updated is very important. Constant vulnerabilities are detected in the computer which can be used by hackers to hack in to your computer. A firewall is the second most important requirement for an open wireless connection. You can go for network firewalls which can be based on hardware or software. These firewalls provide some sort of protection for computers. A little precaution that you can do on your side is by not opening unknown internet attachments. Before opening any attachments, first store the file in your comp and scan with your updated antivirus. At no cost can you run softwares that you do not trust.
